Adelaide was Far Away 80 pages b&w $30	* New book - just released! *   Ian Manning spent two weeks in January 1961 travelling on all the railway lines on Eyre Peninsula. Luckily for us, he took his camera and faithfully recorded many scenes which disappeared within a few years of his visit. His keen eye for observation and detail combine with his entertaining writing style to give us a delightful snapshot of the isolated Port Lincoln Division of the SAR.   This was the era of T and Yx steam locomotives and Fageol and Brill railcars, just prior to the transformations which came with the diesel era. The first 830 class diesel appeared on the scene just four months later.   Railwaymen on the West Coast worked under harsh conditions, far away from the gaze of Head Office. Operations frequently didn’t quite match up to the rules, but the resourcefulness of the crews meant that the trains still served the local communities satisfactorily.   The book is edited and published by the Eyre Peninsula Railway Preservation Society. It is A4 size, 82 pages, perfect bound, and includes 95 of Ian’s excellent photos. All proceeds go to the Museum.
